In the last middle of  February, Piyanus Electric has an honor from Mr. Steve Shade (the representative of Audioquest) to lecture about basic stereo design and introduce new products to our team. Consequently, every staffs in our team all have interesting information and knowledge to exchange with others.

Audioquest Company was established in 1980 by Bill Low who is extreme fond of stereo for the rest of his life. He has percieved that cable can effect sound quality--the more quality cable, the more quality sound. On that period, people have less understanding about cable than today, therefore, cable is the new subject for them. Incidentally, the year of company’s establishment is also the same year that Monster Cable was established and now both of them still be steady as they are used to be. However, the difference between them is Monster Cable has focused on mass market while Audioquest has focused on middle to Hi-End market.

Unique qualification

If you notice at Audioquest’s logo carefully, you will see four squares sings in front of its logo. These squares identify four unique qualification of Audioquest as followed:

Solid

In this context, solid refers to “Strength” according to most of Audioquest’s cable is thick core cable. They avoid strand cable to reduce distortion of voltage value that is the result of changed strand cable’s surface. In simple word, the signal that goes along one strand cable would jump into other cables. As being criscross, it causes distorted signal. The solution is to use thick core cable and insulate each cable for being way out.

Dielectric

 “Insulator” is commonly understood as something that is not electric conductor and use for insulating cable. Anyway, insulator is very important for sound quality in real life. Besides protecting outside noise and absorb inside signal not to disturb with old signal, good quality cables has to align in the same direction within the direction that signal flows throug orderly.

DBS=Dielectric Bias system

DBS is  using of voltage from high battery, over 12 V, that stimulate the operation in molecule level of  “insulator” to go direct in the same direction orderly without involving with electric conductor or other part. Molecule stimulation in this level results full sound detail and gives least loss. Moreover, its merit is no need of cable burn in (You can use cable immediately after unpacking and has stable sound) or even long time unuse, some cables would have different sound charater  and need to do re burning but this would not happen with DBS cable.

Metal

OFC Copper is well known among us for being common metal used in cable producing. Currently, it is the standard material for every cable brand, from low price to expensive ones. Anyway, Audioquest has used LGC copper (Long Grain Copper) as its basic copper. LGC copper’s standard is no oxygen OFC copper that brought to stretch inside molecule for more extended crystal in order to reduce joint between crystal and order  molecule to be tidy. Using LGC copper in every basic cable means that in the same price, you will receive much more quality from other brands.    

For Mid End cable to upper levels, they use more quality of PSC (Perfect Surface copper as materials. You will feel familiar  with OCC (Ono continuous casting copper) which all of copper  is one crystal with no joint but high quality and expensive. Similarly, PSC is ideas’s development  from OCC. It has the same qualification with OCC but has smooth surface of electric conductor throughout the line that allows signal that goes across the surface is more complete and accurate.
However, the development is never end. Idea’s development  is occurred again by some engineers of Audioquest. They examined to bring PSC to go through surface adjustment press machine for one time. The result shows that the surface is smoother and gives better quality sound. If you want to test this difference by yourself, you have to compare listening between King cobra that use PSC+ with Diamnond back that use PSC. They both have the same cable’s construction but King cobra’s sound quality is more excellent than Diamond back. You can prove this fact without any expert but just the simple listening.

Premium electric conductor that necessary to mention here is PSS (Perfect surface silver) which is used the same process with PSC but change material from copper to pure silver. Higher detail with rapid impact and vast dynamic range is something that Hi-end cable of Audioquest is better than their competitors in the same price. Consequently, Audioquest has finally become the world’s most famous Hi-end cable. 

Geometry

Geometric constructional proportion will reduce noise by destroy each other, between tidy ordered electric conductor and balance to each other.   

Another key that we also pay attention is to reduce distortion and increas quality.

1. Direction
In cable production process, there are large amounts of coppers that sent into factory per day. The necessary thing that we have to do is cutting copper into 2 meters length from each large to be bonding together at their head part. Then we have to listen for the sound to seek direction of natural conductor. The right direction will give smoother, more delicate and comfortable sound than wrong one. 2. Cold Welded Termination
Although, as we know that bonding is the famous way to produce cable anyway not the best way. Since lead’s quality and bonding would reduce signal’s quality wastefully, we have innovated Cold Welded Termination which is the way to compress joint’s area with high pressure without any assisting of heat. (Heat will make metal lose physical qualification.) Besides strength and durability in real using, Cold Welded Terminator also allow signal to be well transmited and has least loss. We use this process with cable from Diamond back model to upper models.  

3. Air tube
Air has the qualification to be the best insulator, therefore, you will notice that copper part and insulator part in cable from Diamond back model to upper models does not tocuh each other. We make it afloat between its own insulator, this performance gives good result for reducing noise and purity of  better signal.

River Series
The lastest cable series from Audioquest that its name belongs to world’s famous water fall and river with the best quality that we mentioned above. We bring connector technology from Sky model which is pure silver head about 100, 000 baht to use with this series and add outside insulator. We also use Noise Dissipation System (NDS) for 3 Layer to protect noise for highest quality sound.
